ASRHS Drama Presents Sparkling Classic Comedy, “The Importance of Being Earnest”

Ayer Shirley Regional High School is kicking of it’s 2018-19 comical season with the Oscar Wilde favorite – “The Importance of Being Earnest.” JulieAnn Govang will direct this handsome production of this timeless world classic—an unmissable opportunity to see what the London Telegraph calls “the most perfect comedy in the English language.” Performances run November 30 at 7:30pm and December 1 at 2:30pm and 7:30pm. Tickets are $8 general admission; $5 for students and seniors, and are avaiable at the door,  as well as at Hazen Memorial Library in Shirley. All performances will be held in ASRHS’ Laura S. Leavitt Auditorium, 141 Washington Street in Ayer. For reservations and information, please call (978) 772-2545 or email asrsddrama@asrsd.org. For more information, please call (978) 772-2545, email asrsddrama@asrsd.org or visit ASRHS Drama online at www.jacneed.com/ASYD/AyerShirleyDrama.htm.

Oscar Wilde’s wildly entertaining comedy in three acts sparkles with dazzling wordplay and hilariously unlikely situations. This “trivial comedy for serious people” features two carefree bachelors, Jack and Algernon, each with a carefully hidden double life. But when Algernon discovers that Jack has been posing as a man named Ernest to escape to the city, he promptly travels to Jack’s country estate to pose as the fictional figure himself! Silliness ensues with whimsical ingénues, jealous fiancées, indomitable dowagers, and the most famous handbag in theatre history.

The ensemble cast features ASRHS students Julia Alo, Carolyn Cooper, Vanessa Delk, Chris Govang, Katie Kilcommins, Roz Lupaczyk, Anthony Mavilia, Deran Quinty and Brandon Soto.

Community Partnerships
It was an honor to accept an outstanding Community Partner award from Loaves and Fishes at their annual meeting this past Monday night.  We received this award for providing adequate space to them at LAW this past summer while they renovated their building in Devens.  We also received a framed personalized thank you from the many families who are served by the Loaves and Fishes pantry.  Loaves and Fishes is an outstanding organization and we thank them for all they do for our families in need.  We truly appreciate this award.  It will be treasured for many years.

ASRHS Athletic Fields Project
The fields project is moving forward. Both Ayer and Shirley will hold a debt exclusion election on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, from 7:00am-8:00pm at each Town Hall. For information on the project, please click here.

Understanding Your Child's MCAS Scores
If you were unable to join us this past Wednesday at the Lura A. White Elementary School for the presentation on Understanding Your Child's MCAS Report, you can find the MCAS presentation here. At the end of the PPT are several resources for parents/guardians. Please take a few minutes to review the Parent/Guardian Guides to the MA Standards. They are organized by grade level and are designed to help you understand what your child should know and be able to do at each level, better known as grade level learning standards.  You should find these documents very helpful.
